Attire Guide
Welcome Party - Polished Casual
Our welcome party aboard the First Lady on the Chicago River calls for polished casual attire. Think of it as a date night out in the city — relaxed and comfortable, yet still put-together. We are keeping the evening easygoing so everyone can settle in over cocktails, dessert, and the city views as we kick off the weekend together. Nights on the river run cool, around 60°F, so jackets are strongly recommended and a layer is always a smart idea.
Ceremony & Reception - Black Tie Required
Our ceremony and reception at The Astor Club call for formal black tie attire. To create a unified and sophisticated atmosphere, we are asking all of our guests to wear formal black tie attire. The Astor Club upholds this standard at the door — we note it here so that every guest may arrive prepared and join us for the full evening.
We want everyone to look and feel their absolute best alongside us. This guide will help you in selecting your best outfit. Thank you for dressing up with us.
For Women
Black Floor-Length Gown
- Black floor-length gown — required
No other colors or lengths will be permitted. Fabric and style are your choice — velvet, silk, crepe, and chiffon all work beautifully for an evening at The Astor Club.
For Men
Tuxedo or Black Suit
- Classic black tuxedo with bow tie (preferred)
- Black suit with a dress shirt and tie
No other colors or suit styles will be permitted. If you’re on the fence, rent a tuxedo — you’ll be glad you did.
When in doubt, dress on the formal side — you won't be overdressed.
